Best Time to Travel to Meghalaya & Arunachal Pradesh
Before embarking on your North East India Tour Package, it's important to recognize that this journey will take you through three of the most stunning and nature-rich states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya. With some destinations, like Tawang (3,048 m) in Arunachal Pradesh, soaring above 3,000 meters, and others nestled in lush river valleys, careful planning is essential. Here’s a seasonal guide from Greenday Vacation to help you decide the best time to book your Assam, Meghalaya, and
Arunachal Pradesh Package Tour.
Summer in the North East
While much of India swelters in the heat, Arunachal Pradesh offers a refreshing escape. With temperatures ranging from 8°C to 14°C, it’s an ideal destination for summer holidays. You can take in the breathtaking
beauty of mountains, streams, waterfalls, valleys, wildlife, and monasteries. Similarly, Shillong enjoys a moderate climate with temperatures between 10°C and 18°C, making it pleasantly cool, though Cherrapunji may experience some light rain during this season.
However, be mindful that Kaziranga National Park is closed from April 30 to October 31 each year (this may vary slightly), allowing wildlife a breathing period. Additionally, heavy monsoon rains can lead to flooding in the park, limiting your exploration options. If your focus is solely on Arunachal Pradesh, summer is still a viable option for your trip.
Winter in the North East
Winter, spanning from October to March, is arguably the best time to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. If you’re looking to enjoy snowball fights and build snowmen, visiting Arunachal Pradesh during winter will be a delightful experience.
Shillong and Cherrapunji also transform in winter, with their cold temperatures enhancing the enchanting beauty of the Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia hills. This season is particularly appealing for those seeking tranquility and natural splendor.
Kaziranga National Park becomes a prime attraction in winter, with its vast grasslands home to diverse wildlife. Enjoy thrilling elephant and jeep safaris in various ranges, including the Central Range (Kohora), Western Range (Bagori), Eastern Range (Agartoli), and Burhapahar Range (Ghorakati). Therefore, winter is the perfect time to explore Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Monsoon in the North East
The monsoon season typically spans from July to September. During this time, Cherrapunji and Mawsynram become enchanting rain-soaked paradises, boasting stunning waterfalls and lush greenery. For adventure lovers, experiencing the rain while cozied up with a warm drink can be truly magical. There’s something special about listening to the rhythmic sound of raindrops while enjoying nostalgic melodies.
However, be prepared for potential travel difficulties during the monsoon, such as roadblocks, landslides, and heavy rainfall. Additionally, Kaziranga National Park remains closed from April to October, making it less suitable for a comprehensive 19-night/20-day Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Package during this season.
If you’re a passionate traveler eager to explore the rain-washed valleys, gushing waterfalls, and vibrant local lifestyles, visiting during the monsoon can be rewarding. Just be ready for the thrill and excitement that awaits you at every turn!
